What Firefox 2 lacks in market share, it more than makes up for with several great new features. As one of the leading internet browsers, Mozilla once again delivers with many innovative updates. This release is available in many languages and runs on Linux, Macintosh and of course, Microsoft Windows.
One new feature users are sure to appreciate is the inclusion of session-restore functionality. After a system crash, Firefox will attempt to restore the entire user workspace on a browser restart. As well as restoring the user tabs, cookies, history and form data are also recovered.
Mozilla has added a search-engine suggestion feature as well. It is a drop-down box near the top of the browser window and displays several different search engines including Google, Yahoo and Answers. They also provide the ability to add additional search engines as installable plug-ins.
Security vulnerabilities are always of concern and this version of Firefox helps mitigate that with a pop-up blocker and anti-phishing filter. The real-time filter compares each website against a database of black listed sites. If the user visits a page on the black list, Firefox will generate a message warning alerting to possible forgery. Exceptions can be added to the pop-up blocker, which is enabled by default.
Several changes to the tabbed browsing interface have been made to enhance the user experience. Firefox now opens links in separate tabs instead of opening new browser windows as in prior releases. Each tab now has its own close button, which helps create a better user experience.
The latest Firefox release is a safe and reliable browser with many improvements over the previous version.
